Lidl Hungary has unveiled its largest logistics center in the country, located in Kiskunfélegyháza, following an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, approximately €162 million. This expansive facility spans over 83,000 square meters and is set to bolster the retailer’s supply chain by servicing around 70 stores. With the opening of this center, more than 400 jobs have been created, and Lidl anticipates hiring an additional 50 employees in the near future.
The state-of-the-art logistics hub is equipped with 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, ensuring efficient handling and storage of goods. Emphasizing sustainability, the facility includes energy-efficient features such as a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation. Additionally, it employs technology that captures waste heat from its refrigeration system to provide underfloor heating, further enhancing its environmental credentials.
Surrounding the logistics center is a 10,000-square-meter area dedicated to promoting biodiversity, highlighting Lidl’s commitment to eco-friendly practices. The facility is poised to play a pivotal role in strengthening Lidl’s nationwide supply network, with an estimated 4,500 pallets of goods expected to be dispatched daily.
Lidl’s expansion in Hungary is underscored by its current operation of 220 stores across the country. The company sources nearly 60% of its products from Hungarian suppliers, reinforcing local economic ties. The new logistics center is a strategic move to support Lidl’s growth ambitions and to enhance its operational efficiency within the domestic market.
