Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has announced the resumption of crude oil shipments from its ports on Das and Zirku islands in the Persian Gulf. This decision follows improved conditions facilitated by a recent US-Iran agreement and the anticipated stability of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Customers have been informed that they can begin loading crude cargoes as of April 27. ADNOC cautioned that any failure to collect these scheduled shipments could result in a breach of contractual terms. Additionally, the company has extended support to buyers encountering shipping difficulties, offering assistance through its own or affiliated tanker fleets.
This development is a significant step for Gulf oil producers aiming to restore normal export operations after facing regional disruptions. ADNOC, a key player in the industry, has already facilitated the sale of tens of millions of barrels through tenders, reinforcing its status as one of the most active exporters in the area. The recent resumption underscores the company’s proactive approach to maintaining its export commitments despite ongoing challenges in the region.
In a broader move to safeguard its export capabilities, the United Arab Emirates is actively pursuing alternative routes to minimize its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz. The country is fast-tracking infrastructure projects, notably increasing pipeline capacity to the port of Fujairah located on the Gulf of Oman. This strategic enhancement aims to enable more crude exports to bypass the critical waterway, thereby mitigating potential risks associated with the strait’s congestion or geopolitical tensions.
The US-Iran agreement has played a pivotal role in stabilizing the situation, allowing ADNOC and other Gulf producers to resume their operations. This agreement has eased tensions that had previously threatened the security of oil shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global energy supplies. As conditions improve, ADNOC’s initiative to reopen its ports is a decisive measure to ensure that its export activities continue smoothly and efficiently.
